The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) is an international umbrella organization that represents the collective interest of the Uyghur people both in East Turkistan and abroad and promotes Uyghur human rights, freedom and a peaceful and non-violent solution based on rule of law for the conflict in East Turkistan. The WUC works to advocate for the rights of the Uyghur people at various fora and has emerged as a credible, reliable partner for civil society, states and international institutions.

We are currently hiring for the position of Project Assistant (Munich, Germany). See below for details:

Project Assistant (Munich, Germany)

POSITION

The WUC is currently looking for a Project Assistant to be based in Munich, Germany.

PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Liaise with relevant offices on emerging issues of interest to the WUC
  • Establish and maintain relations with other NGOs
  • Support social media outreach
  • Background research as needed
  • Representing the WUC at meetings, external events; delivery of presentations and speeches
  • Preparation of quarterly activity reports and research reports
  • Handling communication and follow-ups for meetings
  • Knowledge of online conference tools like Webex and others
  • Writing background documents and material for dissemination
  • Support with other duties as assigned

PROFILE OF THE CANDIDATE

  • Minimum three (3) years’ work experience in relevant fields (Management, NGO sector)
  • Knowledge of the European Institutions and the UN human rights system
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills
  • Good communication, negotiation and writing skills
  • Experience in web development and design
  • Experience in advocacy and lobbying is an advantage
  • Fluent Uyghur, English and German; other languages (especially Chinese, Russian or Turkish) are an asset
  • Ability to work autonomously and within tight deadlines
  • Good knowledge of social media, email clients, etc.
  • A commitment to promote human rights for the Uyghur people
  • Willingness to work longer hours depending on the demand is necessary
  • Knowledge of Uyghur human rights situation and/or human rights in China would be an advantage
