UNTIL HOW LONG?

They hustle quietly
and tread lightly
Alas, fate has an unforeseen play
once a bustling house
now just echoes voices
of those who were once heard
now they are locked up in prison cells
with the watchtowers seeming to touch the sky

CCP propaganda thrown at them
and their every breath monitored
all that these windows, beyond their room, show
their uncertain and bleak future
fear has now become their language and death their yearning

Far down the hall, in a sing song voice, thousands of voices
“Long live Xi jinping” can be heard
Repeated till their throats are parched
and their faith instilled

The police stand mighty and proud
Which Education Camps have them, you may ask?
and with the barbed wires and surveillance cameras
School traps their mind and soul, instead of freeing them

Somewhere not far away
Han Chinese men approach her house
She sleeps with her “relatives”
and 4 of them share the same bed
Ethnic cleansing is an illusion
But rape is what it is

As a young boy asks for his father
and questions his absence
he asks his mum, whether he would also have to attend school twice
All his mom can muster is a feeble maybe

A mother upon being separated from her kids is enervated
Upon asking her crime, told
she is a Uyghur and being a Uyghur is a crime

Shrivelled up to such an extent
the screams haunt the hollow building
death is invited with open arms
and life shunned upon

All she remembers is a certain Saturday afternoon
when she saw the last of him
her brother, as young as 6 years
and the sister questions yourself
Does God separate all siblings who fight?
she longs for him

But little does she know 5 lakh other children
As young as 6 months
those who will be saying their first words
and as old as 12-year olds
who have been snatched away from their families?
Their impressionable minds
taught to hate their identity and their parents

It Breaks my heart to even grasp
what these millions of individuals are going through
They are just like you and me
Their only “fault” is to practise their religion
Their rights and life taken away from them on the pretext of
‘Reducing Islamic extremism”

So, raise your voices
Lead a sea of change
Do this not because you are a Muslim or a Chinese
Do it because you are a human.

And then, you would have truly made an impact
On this deranged society of ours.
