New Research Reveales Complicitness of Chinese Tech Companies in the Uyghur Genocide
On October 17, the Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP) released their newest research, “Hikvision and Dahua Facilitating Genocidal Crimes in East Turkistan”. The briefings reveal the links between the two major Chinese surveillance companies, Hikvision and Dahua, and the atrocity crimes in East Turkistan. The research furthermore highlights how broadly the camera systems of these companies are sold around the world including to sensitive government departments in the United States and United Kingdom. The entities are the world’s first and second largest surveillance technology companies which provide their equipment to 155 and 180 countries. Additionally, Hikvision and Dahua directly supply their products to Chinese authorities to control and monitor the Uyghur population. Their cameras have been installed in and around internment camps, schools, and mosques across the region.

World Uyghur Congress holds #WritersSupportUyghurs Panel Discussion
On October 17, the World Uyghur Congress together with science fiction writer, Adam Gillsmith held an online panel discussion on the ongoing Uyghur genocide. It included Adam Hochschild, Andrew Gillsmith, Kamran Pasha, and Abduweli Ayup as speakers. The panel was held in response to the Worldcon science fiction convention in Chengdu, China, which included Liu Cixin and Sergei Lukyanenko, who have been outspoken in favor of the genocidal policies against Uyghurs. The decision to hold the event in China has prompted concern from a wide range of science fiction fans, journalists, and authors, many of whom have called for a boycott.

“We are grateful for this support from the science fiction and literary communities,” said Dolkun Isa, President of the World Uyghur Congress. “Our goal is not to disrupt Worldcon but to ensure that coverage of the event includes the facts about an ongoing genocide being perpetrated by the host country.”
