Uighur brothers in Jura, six months later

 It was over Beijing’s vocal opposition that two ethnic Uighur brothers from China came to live in Switzerland six months ago. They were locked up for eight years at the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay but never charged with any crime. The pair was among 22 Uighurs seized at a camp in Afghanistan after the American-led bombing campaign began in 2001, a month after the 9/11 attacks. Switzerland granted Arkin and Bahtiyar Mahmud asylum on humanitarian grounds. The brothers now live in canton Jura and, a short while ago, met the media for the first time.
