WHY: Frontline activists had been calling on the international community to make strong and meaningful recommendations during China’s 2024 Universal Periodic Review (UPR) to address Xi Jinping’s rampant crackdown on the rights of Tibetans, Uyghurs, Hong Kongers and Chinese dissidents. In January 2024, after over five years, China will have its human rights record assessed during the 4th cycle of UPR. A panel of cross-movement activists will provide on-the-ground, first-hand analysis of the outcomes of the UPR, and unpack what this means for affected communities living under China’s oppressive grip.
