The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) must regretfully inform you that a fake email has been widely circulated during the past few days regarding our upcoming conference next week. We encourage you to ignore this email and, in particular, to not open any attachments as they are infected with a virus that will affect your computer if opened.

We also urge everyone to be extra vigilant in the run up to our conference, and during it, as it is highly likely that Uyghur activists’ email accounts will be hacked as has happened in the past, where the locations of those fake emails were noted to have come from China. We view this as a deliberate attempt to disrupt peaceful efforts to raise awareness of legitimate human rights concerns.

The email is purportedly from WUC Spokesman Mr Alim Seytoff, but upon closer inspection of the email address, ([email protected]) you should note that the address is incorrect. You can also find below the text that is in the body of the fake email. If you have any doubts, please do not hesitate to contact us.
