The World Uyghur Congress with the co-operation of the Australian Uyghur Association, the East Turkestan Australian Association and the Victoria Uyghur Association will hold a democracy-training workshop entitled “The Uyghur Issue in the Context of China’s Democratisation Process” in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne, Australia from March 21 to 28, 2011.  The workshop is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for Democracy Foundation (NED).

Prominent Uyghur leader Rebiya Kadeer, thrice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, will be attending the workshop.

The Grand Meeting of Friendship and Solidarity of Uyghur Youth To Take Place in Munich in October, 2010

The Youth Committee of the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) would like to announce the convening of the The Grand Meeting of Friendship and Solidarity of Uyghur Youth (GMFSUY) from 22-24 October, 2010 in Munich, Germany.

The GMFSUY aims to be a global platform for strengthen friendship and a solidarity among the Uyghur youth community around the world and consolidating their campaigns for freedom, human rights and democracy for the Uyghur people. Organized by the WUC Youth Committee, the GMFSUY will be attended by nearly 50 representatives of Uyghur youth community from several countries and it will form an effective network and a functioned mechanism of cooperation among Uyghur youth community. This is a new milestone in building a new generation of young Uyghur community in the Uyghur Diaspora and we are intending to give young Uyghur human rights and democracy advocates a broader view about the current and future accepts of our campaigns.

Uyghur Leadership Training Seminar 2009 (Washington DC, US)

An “Uyghur Leadership Training Seminar” was held from 18 – 19 May 2009 in Washington DC, US. The seminar entitled “East Turkestan: 60 Years under the People’s Republic of China – Past, Present and Future” was  jointly organised by the WUC and the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), and funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

The conference looked to assess the past and present Uyghur condition under Chinese Communist Party rule, and to offer solutions on the future of East Turkestan. Topics to be covered during the two-day event included discussions on autonomy, religious freedom and the “War on Terror”.

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) together with the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) and support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) organized their second leadership training seminar in two years.

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) together with the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) and support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) organized their second leadership training seminar in two years. This year it was organised in Berlin Germany from the 21st until the 24th of April 2008. The seminar proved to be a great success and was another great opportunity to empower the Uyghur diaspora, it furthermore was a great occasion to  show the world the difficult position the Uyghurs in East Turkestan are facing.

In addition to promoting the Uyghur cause during the event itself, the core objective was to enable present and future Uyghur leaders to become themselves more effective international proponents of their rights.

First Day of WUC Training in Berlin a Great Success

Uyghur Leadership Training

 

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) together with the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) and support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) organized their second leadership training seminar in two years, which opened today the 21st of April 2008. Over 50 members of the Uyghur Diaspora from around the world together with prominent academics, government representatives and members of the civil society gathered in Berlin Germany to discuss this year’s topic “Self-Determination under International Law”.

Mr. Dolkun Isa, Secretary General of the World Uyghur Congress, opened the occasion, welcoming participants to the training seminar, many of whom traveled some distance to attend the event, including from Australia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Norway and the United States.
