Ali Ablat

Sentence: Sentenced in 2003 to ten years’ imprisonment for “splittism.”

According to a Dui Hua Dialogue report and other Dui Hua information, security officials detained Ali Ablat (Aili Abulaiti), an ethnic Uyghur resident of Yopurgha county, Kashgar prefecture, in 2001. Authorities suspected that he was involved with the “Islamic Liberation Party” (Hizb-ut-Tahrir al-Islami).

The Kashgar Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Ablat on 16 January 2003, to ten years’ imprisonment for “splittism.” Five others were convicted with him. Ali allegedly used party publications to teach classes on Islam and recruit new members to the organization.

Additional details about the charges against Ablat and his place of imprisonment are not available.
