Due to the upcoming first anniversary of the events of 5 July 2009 in Urumqi, the regional capital of East Turkestan (also known as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China), when peaceful demonstrations of Uyghur people against government inaction on the killing of at least two Uyghur migrant workers by Han Chinese workers in a toy factory in Guangdong province, were brutally suppressed by Chinese security forces, killing an untold number of Uyghurs, different events are organised by the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) and its affiliates organisations on 4 and 5 July 2010 in about 20 cities around the world.
The actions in Paris will take place on Sunday, 4 July 2010:
A peaceful demonstration will be held at Place de Trocadero (Parvis des Libertés et des Droits de l’Homme, 75016 Paris) from 13.00h on. Around 14.00h – 14.30h the demonstration will march to Chinese Embassy of Paris (11 Avenue George V, 75008 Paris) and end there at 17.00h. In the demonstration, a couple of hundred of Uyghurs from Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, UK and France will participate, as well as delegations from different NGOs, politicians and human rights activists supporting the Uyghur cause.
Between 11.00h and 12.00h a press conference, organised by the WUC ( Asgar Can, Vice President, Dolkun Isa, Secretary General) in collaboration with Mr. Sylvain Garel, (President du Groupes des Elus Verts au Conseil de Paris), Ms. Marie Holzman (Sinologue) and Ms. Tran Dung NGHI (the Association Des Jeunes Vietnamiens De Paris) will be hold in the Hotel Baltimore (88 bis, avenue Kleber, 75116 Paris).
