World Uyghur Congress, 13 April 2023

The World Uyghur Congress submitted a report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women for Consideration on the Report on China Concerning the Rights of the Uyghur and other Turkic and Muslim Women. This submission presents evidence of the discriminatory policies implemented by the People’s Republic of China against Uyghur and Turkic women in East Turkistan. We submitted evidence in relation to violations of Articles 2, 10 and 16
of the Convention, and we included questions for the Committee members to consider during the
periodic review of China.

  • Article 2 – The Right to Non-Discrimination:
    The World Uyghur Congress is highlighting the severe maltreatment inside and outside the camps.
     
  • Article 10 – The Right to Education
    We provide information on Chinas crackdown on Uyghur language and religion.
  • Article 16 – Family Relations:
    The Chinese governement seeks to decermine the Uygur population through birth control policies, including forced sterilisation, forced IUD placement, and other birth prevention measures. Furthermore, the state introduced measures to increase coerce marriages between Han men and Uyghur and other Turkic and Muslim women.
