WUC Holds Its Second Executive Meeting

Munich – The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) held the Second Extended Meeting of the Executive Committee on July 16-17 in Munich, Germany. WUC members from Germany, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Holland, France, Austria, Turkey, and Kyrgyzstan attended the meeting. Prominent Uyghur human rights activist Ms. Rebiya Kadeer and political leader Memtimin Hezret attended it as special guests.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Ekrin Alptekin, WUC president, welcomed all the guests and said, “It is our honour to have Ms. Rebiya Kadeer here with us. Her recent release has given great hope for the Uyghur people because she is the symbol of our freedom.”

During the two-day meeting, WUC members discussed current international situation, the Chinese government’s ongoing gross human rights violation of the Uyghur people, the long and short term plans of WUC in achieving its stated mission.

WUC Executive Committee adopted a resolution honouring Ms. Rebiya Kadeer as “the Mother of the Uyghur Nation and the leader of East Turkestan.” Ms. Kadeer thanked WUC for honouring her in such a way and expressed her desire to work with WUC for the promotion of human rights, religious freedom and democracy in East Turkestan.

The Executive Committee also approved a grand strategy for the solution of the East Turkestan Question and voted for a declaration concerning the form of government in the future East Turkestan, its relations with other nations, and the rights and duties of its citizens.

The meeting is a huge success. Every person attended this meeting is delighted by the proposed results it achieved. The meeting ended in the afternoon on Sunday.
