December 9th Marks Uyghur Genocide Recognition Day
On December 9th, the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) and Uyghurs around the world commemorated Uyghur Genocide Recognition Day. On this day, which marks the one-year anniversary of the verdict of the Uyghur Tribunal, the WUC organized various events and protests to highlight and call for an end to the ongoing atrocities.

On December 7th, the WUC and the Uyghur Human Rights Project oranized an online panel discussion about the impact of the Uyghur Tribunal, which also featured part of a theatre play inspired by the Uyghur Tribunal’s events. On December 8th, WUC President Dolkun Isa participated in a press conference in Washington D.C., followed by the first international Conference On Preservation of Uyghur Culture in the Middle of a Genocide. On December 9th, the WUC organized an online panel discussion for its German-speaking audience, as well as a demonstration in Munich.

Global Car Supply Chains Entangled With Abuses in East Turkistan
This week, a new report titled “Driving Force: Automotive Supply Chains and Forced Labor in the Uyghur Region” revealed massive and expanding links between western car brands and Uyghur abuses, in everything from the hood decals and car frames to engine casings, interiors and electronics. According to the report, the supply chains of major car makers are thereby at high risk of exposure to Uyghur forced labour, from raw materials mining and processing to auto parts manufacturing.

“The prevalence of Uyghur forced labour in global supply chains is undeniable, tainting nearly the entire car industry – nearly every part of the car and nearly every major manufacturer,” said Dolkun Isa, President of the World Uyghur Congress in a statement of the Coalition to End Uyghur Forced Labour. “Companies around the world have a moral, and legal, obligation to end any complicity in these crimes. The car industry needs to take swift action to extricate itself from Uyghur forced labour.”

52 Uyghur Groups Urge Heads of State to Condemn Uyghur Genocide during Xi Jinping visit to Saudi Arabia
As Chinese President conducted a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia, the WUC joined a group of 50 Uyghur organizations from 20 countries urging heads of states and leaders of international organizations to condemn the Chinese government’s atrocity crimes against the Uyghurs, and call for an end to the ongoing genocide. On the same occasion, the WUC urges the Saudi authorities to release the four Uyghurs detained in Saudi Arabia for nearly a year. Their extradition to China would be in violation of the principle of non-refoulement.

“Those who are meeting Xi Jinping in Saudi Arabia should be aware that they are meeting with the leader of a regime responsible for a genocide against Uyghur muslims”, WUC President, Dolkun Isa, stated. “Especially those heads of muslim-majority states must urgently break their silence on the Uyghur genocide. It is their religious responsibility to protect Islamic values.”
