Pr. Dr. Erkin Emet

Dr. Erkin Emet was born in Yopurgha county of East Turkistan.  After finished elementary and middle school in Yakshanba Bazar village, he started high school in 1st High School of Yopurgha county.  Then he went to Beijing Nationality University (北京民族大学)for his BA degree for Uyghur Language and Literature and graduated in 1982. He worked as a lecturer in the university in the same year.

In August 1988,  Erkin Emet came to Turkey to pursue a master’s degree in Language, History, and Geography at Ankara University where he also got his Ph.D. degree in the same field.  He has been teaching Uyghur language since 1992 at faculty of Literatures of the Department of Language and History and Geography, Ankara University. He also worked as a dean of the faculty of department. In 2014, he became an Associate Professor.

Since 1998, Associate Professor Erkin Emet has held various positions at both the World Uyghur Youth Congress and the National Congress of East Turkestan (Uyghuristan). At the 6th Congress, He was elected as the Secretary-General of the World Uyghur Congress. In November 2017, Erkin Emet was elected again as a   General Secretary of the World Uyghur Congress which was held in Munich, Germany.

Erkin Emet wrote the Uyghur part of the 21 volumes of Turkish Encyclopaedia. Except from 40 academic reports and presentations on international conferences, Emet published 30 academic articles in various languages and advocated East Turkistan case on different stages such as on the TV, radio, magazines and on the meetings.
