The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Campaign for Uyghurs (CFU), Hong Kong Watch (HKW) and Students for a Free Tibet (SFT) for receiving the 10th Global Assembly Courage Tributes.

These three human rights groups have been working tirelessly to promote and defend universal values, including human rights, democracy and freedom. Campaign for Uyghurs has contributed enormously to advancing human rights for the Uyghur people.

‘’I am extremely proud of my long time and dear friend Rushan Abbas and CFU for receiving this award. I have known her almost all my life, and I know how committed she is to defend the rights of the voiceless, and this is why she has founded Campaign for Uyghurs, and it has made it its mission to do so’’, said WUC President, Dolkun Isa. ”I am also very pleased to see our allies, SFT and HKW get the recognition they deserve for the very hard work they’re putting in defending freedom and democracy.”

Uyghurs are facing one of the most severe repressions of our time, including mass internment, forced labour, forced sterilisation, gender-based violence, family separations, cultural destruction and the erasure of the Uyghur identity as a whole, all of which amount to genocide. It is, therefore, more important than ever to support Uyghur groups that are working to ensure the rights and voices of the Uyghur people are heard.

Uyghurs, Tibetans, Hong Kongers and other persecuted people in China or around the world need to work together to combat authoritarianism and its brutal consequences. The international community cannot idly stand by without holding the perpetrators accountable.
