The WUC welcomes the Op-Ed in The Guardian by Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, and expresses its heartfelt thanks to the Chief Rabbi for speaking out to condemn the grave human rights abuses against the Uyghur people in East Turkistan. As the Chief Rabbi is one of the leading religious authorities in the United Kingdom, his statement is of significant importance for the Uyghur community.

“In our efforts to end the suffering of our people, the support of the Jewish community has been of great importance”, WUC President, Dolkun Isa, said. “Statements of solidarity like this strengthen us and give us hope in our pursuit to give justice to the victims of the Uyghur genocide.”

As the main message of the Chief Rabbi’s Op-Ed was that “every one of us shares in the responsibility to act” to end the Uyghur genocide, the WUC calls upon other religious authorities leaders to make a similar statement to condemn the Chinese government for its atrocities against the Uyghur people and urge the international community to take appropriate action against those responsible for the Uyghur Genocide.
