Panel Discussion – What can Sweden do for Uyghurs?

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) is organizing a panel discussion convening Uyghur human rights activists, and the Swedish civil society. The speakers will focus on the human rights atrocities committed by the Chinese Communist Party against Uyghurs, informing the public on the specific issues at hand.

The role of the international community, which plays a valuable part in ending the atrocities against Uyghurs will furthermore be discussed, particularly the role of Sweden, as one of the leading states having supported and led a draft resolution in September 2022 regarding a debate on the human rights situation of the Uyghurs at the 51st UN Human Rights Council.

This panel discussion will feature camp survivors who have witnessed the conditions within the camps, and the daily reality facing Uyghurs and Turkic people. These testimonies offer an in-depth understanding of the genocidal policies carried out by the Chinese government.

Speakers:

Kalbinur Sidiq, a former teacher, forced to teach Mandarin Chinese to the detainees in three different camps.

Sayragul Sauytbay, a former doctor, and teacher, forced to teach Mandarin Chinese to detainees in camps.

Dolkun Isa, President of the World Uyghur Congress and a long-time human rights defender joins this panel as he testifies about these policies and his personal experience of transnational repression.

Måns Molander, the Nordic Director of Human Rights Watch. Based in Stockholm, he advocates for the Nordic countries to pursue rights-respecting foreign policies.
