East Turkestan Elites Meeting: Strategy for Uyghur Struggles

Elites, experts, activists, and community leaders from the Uyghur diaspora gathered in the city of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Cyprus, to hold a three day meeting from February 25-27 to build upon a strategy for the Uyghur struggle.

The meeting was organized by Uyghur researcher and strategy specialist Dr. Erkin Ekrem and nineteen participants were able to attend from 12 different countries. Participants shared their vision of possible reform by analyzing the effects of the transformation of the international political and economic order in regards to issues relating to Uyghurs and East Turkestan. The meetings were also intended to address some of the existing challenges and opportunities in the near term.

The meetings were successfully conducted and created a positive and beneficial experience for all who attended. The participants agreed on a strategic, forward-looking agenda for the next meeting in order to direct work in the future.
