Sentence: Sentenced to between 16-24 months of Reeducation Through Labour (RTL) in December 2010 for causing “public disorder.”

According to RFA, in November 2010, public security officials in Beijing city detained seven Uyghur men from Pishan (Guma) county, Hotan district, East Turkestan, who traveled to Beijing to protest a state policy that they said forced them to sell produce at prices under market rates. The men —Sirajidin Eziz, Nurabla Nurmemet, Abla Ablikim, Eli Hapiz, Ahmet Osman, Ablet Abdurehim, and Omer Salih— were in a group of 25 farmers who went to Beijing. Officials detained the seven as they tried to protest in Tiananmen Square.

Family members said the men’s whereabouts were unknown until April 2011, when they received official notice that the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps 14th Agricultural Division RTL Committee, which has jurisdiction over the village where the men live, ordered them to serve periods of RTL from 16 to 24 months. Sirajidin Eziz was ordered to serve 2 years’ RTL; details on the others’ RTL orders are unavailable.

Family members said that, according to the notice, the men have been held in a RTL center in Aksu district, Xinjiang, since 4 December 2010, for causing “public disorder” when they gathered to protest.
