The WUC has received some updated information regarding the group of Uyghurs who are currently in detention in Bangkok, Thailand, and on a hunger strike to protest their poor treatment, challenge the legality of their indefinite detention, and bring greater attention to their circumstances. Read the original statement here.

As previously reported, 15 Uyghurs began a hunger strike on May 31st at 15:00 local time, but that number has now reached 31 and includes all Uyghurs currently at the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) in Bangkok.

Additionally, one Uyghur male who was involved in the hunger strike since Tuesday afternoon reportedly collapsed and was sent to hospital where he received brief treatment and was returned to the detention centre just hours later.

Another group of 25 Uyghurs are also detained at a detention centre in Hat Yai in southern Thailand.

The WUC continues to monitor the ongoing situation.
