Statement on the Fourth Anniversary of July 5 Incident of Urumqi

FDC, 5 July 2013

Four years have passed since the July 5 Incident of Xinjiang (also known as East Turkestan). According to China’s official statement, more than 150 people, including both Hans and Uighurs, were killed during the violence which shocked the world. So far, Chinese government dares not to tell the world what really happened. As the situation in Xinjiang gets grim, China’s crackdown policy has never stopped. In the name of anti-terrorism, Chinese government labels all reasonable demands of the Uighur people as acts of terrorism. It rules with an iron fist and never hesitates to kill the Uyghur people with the state’s military forces. We strongly condemn the disregard of Uighur human rights by Chinese government and denounce its savage acts of brutal repression. We are also concerned with the current situation in Xinjiang, for which we make the following statements.

We urge the safeguarding of the basic human rights of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang and an empathetic understanding of the reasonable political demands of the Uighurs. We believe that it is despotic system of China causing the tension between ethnic groups in Xinjiang. The demands of the Uighurs are a spurning of the Chinese Communists’ autocracy.

The Chinese Communist regime believes in crackdown with armed forces, which by no means can remove the problems in Xinjiang. On the contrary, it can only worsen the ethnic conflicts, and many Han people will also become victims of the regime’s tyranny. China simply continues with the feudal policy of the iron fisted ruling of Xinjiang. This will cause disasters for future generations. The Communist regime’s recent exhibition of its military might in Xinjiang is another example of its belief that a military crackdown is the only way to stabilize Xinjiang. We urge the Chinese government to immediately stop this incorrect and misguided policy in Xinjiang.

In the mean time we call upon the international community to give due attention to the human right condition in Xinjiang. The international community should not sit idly upon the human rights disasters in Xinjiang. Today’s Xinjiang is becoming yesterday’s Kosovo. The international community is obliged to stop the worsening of human rights condition in Xinjiang and to play an important role in solving the problems in Xinjiang in order to promote peace and justice.

We believe that the root cause of the ethnic issue in Xinjiang is the autocracy of the Chinese Communist Party which has been clinging to an unethical ethnic policy for over sixty years. We are convinced that solutions to issues in Xinjiang can be reached in the framework of a democratic China.
