The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) and the Uyghur Academy welcome the creation of the Uyghur braille script by Harris Mowbray and by Uyghur scholars. The project, which built upon decades of previous, unfinished efforts, was completed in 2021.

French Parliament Passes a Resolution Recognizing Uyghur Genocide
On January 20th, The French Parliament, passed a resolution with an overwhelming majority (169-1) that recognizes China’s abuses against the Uyghur people as crimes against humanity and genocide. The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) welcomed the passage of the resolution in the French Parliament and commended the efforts of the Uyghur community in France, particularly the European Uyghur Institute and Uyghur camp survivors, for raising their voices and urging France to take a clear position.

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) welcomes the passage of a resolution in the French Parliament (lAssemblée nationale) by an overwhelming majority that recognizes China’s actions against the Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims in East Turkistan, as crimes against humanity and genocide. The WUC commends the efforts of the Uyghur community in France, particularly the European Uyghur Institute and Uyghur camp survivors, for raising their voices and urging France to take a clear position.

WUC President urges France to adopt the Uyghur Genocide resolution

Ahead of the vote in Paris, WUC President Dolkun Isa urges the French General Assembly to adopt the Uyghur Genocide resolution. “We urge France to take a strong position on the Uyghur genocide, silence is complicity”, Mr. Isa said. The vote on the Uyghur Genocide resolution will take place on 01/20/2022.

WUC Joins Protest Action Urging Allianz to Drop its Sponsorship of Beijing Olympics
On January 7th, the World Uyghur Congress took part in a protest action organized by Tibet Initiative Deutschland to urge Allianz to drop its sponsorship of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, in the face of China’s egregious human rights abuses against Uyghurs, Tibetans, and others. During the action, WUC Program Manager Zumretay Arkin presented Allianz with a change.org petition, which was signed by over 46,000 individuals asking the company to drop its sponsorship of the Beijing Olympics.

Olympic athletes to wear kit manufactured in ‘slave labour’ region of Xinjiang

China’s Olympic athletes will be donning uniforms manufactured in Xinjiang, a region mired in controversy over human rights allegations, including forced labour.

More than 2,000 sets of uniforms – including ski suits, gloves, hats and ear muffs – using cotton and camel hair sourced from the region have been delivered to Beijing, according to state media Beijing Daily.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said he communicated Turkey’s concerns about the treatment of the Uyghur ethnic group to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi during talks in Beijing.

“We conveyed our views, expectations, and sensitivities regarding the issues on our agenda, especially the Uyghur Turks,” Cavusoglu said after the talks on January 12, adding that the two sides also discussed economic cooperation.
