Erkin Emet was born in East Turkestan. He was educated at Beijing University, studying Uyghur language and literature. He lectured at Ankara University starting in 1992, teaching South Eastern Turkish Languages at the Turkish Languages and Literature faculty. Dr Emet became Turkish Citizenship in 1994. Dr Emet received his doctorate from Ankara University in 2000, having written his thesis on East Turkestan Uyghur dialects. Dr Emet has published more than 35 papers devoted to Uyghur language, Uyghur poetry, and the human rights issues facing the Uyghur people. Since 1998 he has been active working worldwide on East Tutkhestan Problem.
