Re: the case of Mr. Dolkun Isa held in Seoul

Esteemed Ambassador:

I take the liberty to write to you, to bring to your attention the case of a dear friend and colleague of mine, Mr. Dolkun Isa. Mr. Isa is a German citizen of Uyghur origins who, on his way to attend the World Forum for Democracy in Seoul, was denied access to Korea for reasons that remain still unclear to him.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure to work with Mr. Isa and the World Uyghur Congress, WUC, of which he is Secretary General, and I can assure you that he is a dedicated advocate for the respect of human rights for the Uyghur people as well as those of all unrepresented peoples in dozens of countries, through non-violent means.

As representative of the UN ECOSOC accredited NGO the Nonviolent Radical Party, I have attended several meetings that Mr. Isa and the WUC have convened over the years, mainly with the support of the U.S Congress-funded National Endowment for Democracy, to highlight the plight of the Uyghur people in Europe and the United Nations, and have collaborated with them to lobby the international community at the UN together with the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organizations.

As all human rights defender Mr. Isa is at risk of unfair treatment in countries that do not recognize civil liberties, I appeal to you, and to you to your government, to live up to the expectations of the international community that has always seen, and hailed, South Korea as a place where human development has made terrific progress over the last decades and allow Mr. Isa to return safely to Germany. Knowing how sensitive the Uyghur issues is these days for Beijing, it goes without saying that listening to Chinese interferences in this matter will certainly put at risk the very life of Mr. Isa and his family.

Confident of your prompt reaction, I remain at your full disposal for any additional information you may require on the matter and thank you for your time and consideration.
