The WUC, in cooperation with the Society for Threatened Peoples, will hold a side event Friday, December 1, from 13:00-14:00 in room XXVII at the Palais des Nations, at the 10th session of the UN Minority Forum – Native Languages in a Contemporary World: Threats and Challenges for Youth. The purpose of the event is to discuss the importance of native language to a people and the contemporary threats and challenges to its continued use. Whether it be due to the intentional actions of an oppressive government or the pressures from our contemporary globalised society, many native languages have come under strain, especially with the younger generation. This event intends to address these significant challenges to native languages by giving a platform to the youth to articulate what they think about their native language, how they relate to it and what pressures and difficulties they face when learning and using their native language.Continue Reading →
The World Uyghur Congress concluded its 6th General Assembly in Munich, Germany by maintaining its firm commitment to supporting the rights of the Uyghur population in East Turkestan. Former President Rebiya Kadeer was approved by the delegates as new Special Leader, and the meeting also saw the election of long-time Uyghur activist and co-founder of the WUC, Dolkun Isa, as its new president, former vice-president, Omer Kanat, elected as Chairman of the Executive Committee.

The 6th General Assembly of the World Uyghur Congress opened yesterday on 10 November 2017 in Munich, Germany. The World Uyghur Congress is proud to announce that we will be holding a three-day Uyghur human rights advocacy training workshop in partnership with the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) and the Sweden Uyghur Education Union from October 13-15 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The workshop will bring together more than 50 interested Uyghur participants and will focus on improving their capacity to engage in human rights advocacy on Uyghur issues at the local and national level. It will provide participants with practical strategies to engage on issues important to Uyghurs including the practice of human rights advocacy in the Swedish context and the use of social media and other online tools in that pursuit.Continue Reading →
